Violin Making Week I
Training week for building a bowed instrument.
The weeks are open to all levels, from absolute beginners to experienced builders. The beginners start by making the inner mold and are initiated as they go along. By the time you have the blocks on the jig, you will have gained a lot of experience with tools and marking equipment. For beginners, the School has tools to borrow.
Advanced students work on their own projects at their own level. They are expected to bring their own tools, because the workshop does not house tools for so many builders. For them, it’s about the fine points of the job: sharpening tools really well (often a final item!), unambiguous marking, getting to know alternative methods, the differences between German and Italian violin making, etc.
